Certain services provided by your doctor are not covered by the NHS and you will be asked to pay a fee, eg pre-employment medicals, insurance claims, holiday certificates, private medicals, private certificates, fitness to drive medicals etc.
Fees & Charges 2023 (DOCX, 43KB)
Please allow 10 working days for completion of any reports or forms (from the Monday following receipt). This timescale may be extended if the doctor who needs to complete the report is on holiday.
We also act as examiners for several life insurance companies. Should we be asked to examine you for their purposes the company will be responsible for the fee. Please allow 21 working days for completion.
"FIT TO..."
GPs in the Mount Avenue Surgery have agreed not to issue “fit to fly”, “fit to perform”, “fit for sport”, or similar certificates because:
- These letters are usually not part of NHS GP services. They’re considered private/non-contract work,
- The request may involve a level of specialist risk assessment outside routine general practice — for example:
- aviation medicine,
- diving,
- professional sports,
- stage/performance insurance,
- high-risk travel after illness or surgery.
- A GP may feel they cannot safely certify something they cannot objectively assess.
- There can be legal and liability concerns if something goes wrong after they sign the certificate.
- Some organisations ask for wording that doctors are uncomfortable guaranteeing, such as “completely fit” or “no risk”.
